Stroke rehabilitation device REHA30

3D printing enables faster development and implementation of products. Efficiency is very important when we talk about effective rehabilitation after a stroke.

Every day in Slovenia, approximately 10 people experience a stroke, and annually around 4,000. Due to the aging population, it is expected that the need for rehabilitation, which includes advanced technologies and robots, will continue to increase.

Due to the vision of modern rehabilitation, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering invited the company Chemets two years ago to collaborate with the goal of physically creating the REHA30 prototype, a key part of the REHA2030 project, led by Prof. Dr. Roman Kamnik with researchers Ana Mandeljc and Aleksander Rajhard. REHA30 is intended for hand movement rehabilitation after a stroke and even enables rehabilitation remotely, outside the clinical environment.

How did Chemets contribute to the REHA30 project?

In the initial phase of the project, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering needed quick and cost-effective solutions. Chemets responded by using 3D printing, which allowed for the rapid production of parts made of polyamide (PA), certified for skin contact and suitable from both a functional and cost perspective for initial functional tests. This production method enabled verification of the design and measurements, which is crucial in developing complex medical devices.

Later the project shifted to more robust production. In the second phase, Chemets 3D and More provided the manufacture of 81 aluminum parts, which gave the device the necessary strength and stability. The final product was painted white according to the RAL color scale, in accordance with the client’s requirements and preferences.

Chemets 3D and More - experience with the REHA project

Participation in REHA30 was Chemets’ third project focused on the field of rehabilitation. Our company’s contributions were also featured on RTV Slovenia in the show Ugriznimo v znanost.

We are proud to help improve the lives of patients using advanced technologies and to support innovative solutions in the field of rehabilitation.
