At Chemets, we are most fulfilled by projects where technology is not just a tool—it tells a story. One such project was our collaboration on the sculpture for the Rado Smerdu Award—the highest national award for achievements in the field of nature conservation.
The Inquiry
We received a request from a long-term client who needed a quote for a larger batch of 3D printed parts.
The requirement was clear: printing in PA2200 (PA12) using SLS technology.
After reviewing the files, our team noticed something important — the parts’ geometry and volume made HSS (High Speed Sintering) a much better fit.
So, we prepared two offers: one for SLS and one for HSS.
The Recommendation
We recommended the HSS technology — and for good reason:
- It’s faster and more efficient for larger batches
- The printer has a larger build volume, meaning fewer print jobs
- The total production cost was over €1,000 lower than with SLS
- The part quality was practically identical
From a technical and cost perspective, it was a clear choice.

The Decision
And yet — despite our long-standing partnership and transparent explanation — the client decided to go with the more expensive option.
Why?
Because HSS is still a less familiar technology, and in manufacturing, trust often outweighs innovation.
It wasn’t about quality or price — it was about comfort and familiarity.

What This Tells Us
At Chemets, we don’t just manufacture parts — we provide guidance.
Our goal is to help clients understand the full range of possibilities before making a decision.
Every project is unique. But one thing remains the same: we stand by our clients even when they choose a different path. Because in the end, trust isn’t built overnight — it’s earned through consistency, expertise, and results.
